A Tried-and-True Method for Replacing Teeth

Dentures are perhaps the best-known method to replace missing teeth. Unlike permanent solutions, they can be easily removed and placed back in your mouth. FIT Dental Center offers both full and partial dentures that can be customized to suit your specific needs.

Full vs. Partial Dentures

  • Conventional full dentures - All teeth are removed, then your gums are given time to heal before the dentures are placed.
  • Immediate full dentures - Before the teeth are removed, you will be measured for dentures that can be placed once your teeth have been removed. You will need to make a return visit to refit your new dentures. This is necessary as your jaw bone structure will change as it heals and the dentures will need tightening.
  • Partial dentures - These are used when you haven't lost all of your teeth. Partial denture sets are similar to a bridge but are not permanently fixed in your mouth.

What to Expect From Your Dentures

Your new dentures will take some time to get used to, however, there will be a period of adjustment. At first, your dentures may create a "bulky" feeling in your mouth, as if there isn't enough room for your tongue. Your dentures may also feel loose and you could feel changes in the way you talk or eat.

Over time, your mouth will adjust to your dentures and they will feel perfectly natural.

Caring for Your Dentures

You should treat your dentures as if they were your original teeth. They should be properly brushed before being removed from your mouth, then placed in room temperature water or a denture cleaning solution. Never place them in hot water. Dentures should always be handled with care.
